Mario Microland

Super Mario Microland is a collection of figures and compatible playsets distributed by Jakks Pacific. The figures are made of a medium-hard plastic, common to a wide variety of action figures. They are quite tiny, ranging in size from .75 to 1.5 inches tall. Primarily, the figures are available in straightforward packs of three.   Series 1 was released in 2014, and Series 2 came out in 2015. Six packs were made for Series 1 (with two duplicate figures), and six packs were made for Series 2 (with no duplicates).  In these photos, I have kept the figures together in their 3-pack groupings.

Series 1
Mario + Goomba + Luigi

Koopa Troopa + Bowser + Toad

Yoshi + Princess Peach + Bob-omb

Koopa Troopa + Flying Squirrel Mario + Nabbit

Flying Squirrel Toad and Luigi + Bob-omb

Fire Mario + Bowser Jr. + Bullet Bill

Series 2
Dry Bones + Boo + Fire Luigi

Red Toad + Sumo Bro + Lakitu

Magikoopa + Propeller Mario + Buzzy Beetle

Larry Koopa + Penguin Luigi + Red Koopa Troopa

Penguin Mario + Morton Koopa + Cheep Cheep

Boom Boom + Hammer Bro + Ice Mario

I'm disappointed that Jakks put two duplicate figures in Series 1. The franchise has such a ridiculous number of characters.  There are so many different colored versions of Yoshi and Toad alone, that doubling-up on figures should never, ever happen.  Perhaps they've realized this shortcoming, since Series 2 contained no duplicates.  One other thing I found odd was that the design of the Penguin Mario was styled differently than all the other Mario and Luigi sculpts, somewhat disrupting the consistency of the series.

In addition to the figure packs, Jakks has made eight Microland playsets. Each playset consists of three connectable pieces of "land" with defining features (trees, rocks, slides, etc) particular to that terrain. Each playset can interconnect with the other playsets, increasing the size of the landscape. All playsets come with at least one figure -- almost always a duplicate from the 3-packs. However, there are two exceptions yielding two more unique figures: Monty Mole and a Huckit Crab.

Above all, I hope Jakks continues the line and produces many more characters -- especially an Ice Luigi and Propeller Luigi, simply because Mario is currently left without his brother in these versions. I would really like to see the other five Koopalings for the same reason.
